Harrison L5 lathe
#1
Hi

I am new to this forum.  I found the fantastic rebuild done by a forum member of his Harrison L5  Smiley-signs107 .

I have a L5 Harrison, same vintage - rather rear over here in Australia.

I have fitted a new 2hp 3 phase motor and a VFD . the lathe came with a odd 240V DC motor, the lathe was used on a ship .

I did learn quite a lot , looking through the rebuild pages . 6820

Hi Mike welcome to the forum.
It will have been my rebuild I think, glad you enjoyed it and was helpful to you. From what I can see your L5 is very similar to mine does it hae the 1 1/2 inch spindle or the larger 2 1/2 inch spindle ?  ,  the only thing I can spot different is your cabinet door is the later steel type which means your lathe should be a bit newer than mine.

Hi Mick

Thank you for the welcome .

This particular L5 does have the smaller spindle 1 1/2"  6 tpi  nose

I wonder how you find using the L5 ?  I am yet to try mine out . I did fit a larger pulley to the motor , this will increase speeds a bit .

I think it may have been made around 1957 ?  The serial nr is 115759

Ok the cabinet door, yes its a steel construction. The large hole next to the door is where the switching cabinet was , for controlling  the DC motor . The DC motor has Ministry of Defence markings on it .

Luckily for me, I can use your rebuild as a guide .

Regards   Mike
