Actually I'm with you on stamping the material. When I worked on nuclear propulsion systems both ends of the nuclear certified bar stock were stamped. Before the material was removed from the cut-off saw the remainder of the bar was restamped and the newly cut end of your material was stamped. One could literally trace the material all the way back to the mine.

If you had to cut multiple pieces the bar was restamped after each & every cut.
