Reversing a Mill
#1
I just picked up my mill. I bought a used Craftex B1977 MB-30B. It's a Post Style Mill. I'm very happy with this mill. It's going to do anything I ever want to build.
The only thing that I would like to change is this particular mill doesn't have a reverse. Some of the models have reverse was well as a Tapping feature. But this one only has the On Off buttons. I would really like to have reverse.
Is it possible to wire in a heavy duty switch to reverse the polarity?
If so what do I need to be looking for?

Trevor,

If the motor is reversible you can use a DPDT switch. It should say on the nameplate whether it is or not. If not, you'll need to use a Variable Frequency Drive to get the job done.

Trevor,

Is it a 3-phase motor?

I finally was able to get to my mill and look at the tag on the motor.
This is what it says:
1 1/2HP
Volts 116/230
Phase 1
Pole 4
Class A
HZ 60

Thanks for the info Vinny. I will look it over and see what I can do.
I picked up a Reversible Drum Switch. I'm not positive if that will be the correct switch to use or not. It is a Forward, Off, Reverse switch.
