Well I eventually wanna sell my grizzly 10x22 and get a 1236. i would love a 1340 just not sure I could swing it. so I'll most likely have to be a 1236 around the 4 thousand price point. used machine  equipment is rare around me and it's either beat to hell or they think it's gold so I'll probably go with grizzly  precision matthews or the like any and all opinions welcome  Smiley-dancenana Smiley-dancenana Smiley-dancenana

You don't indicate just were in the US your are located. Machine tool pricing is very geographically linked. Upper plain states its a machine tool desert and priced accordingly. Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, etc MT's are easier to find. Try using Search Tempest with a 500 mile (one day trip) radius to see what you can locate. Also look into government auctions as you can find surplus university equipment with very little time on the machines.

Here's one I just stumbled across on Ebay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/MANUAL-ENGINE-L...0752.m1982

$4500 and made in Italy.  Don't know anything about the brand, but I've visited Italian machine tool makers and their equipment is comparable with German & Swiss equipment.

Here's another one:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vinatge-Clausin....l4275.c10

However it's already drawing a lot of attention.  Wouldn't be surprised if it goes for more than the asking price.  Clausings are very good lathes.
