With the same free shipping!
Don't know how they can do it, everyone else has outrageous shipping costs.

I was going to order some 4140 from them and noticed a few things. First was the free shipping on orders over $50. I also read something in their shipping terms that says "qualifying orders" will ship free. It doesn't say everything ships for free.

Another note said that it (4140) ships directly from vendor (FastMetals). So I am assuming they selling third party?  I also compared their prices to McMaster and discovered the Xometry prices are about the same as McMaster's top tier grade of 4140. (Hardened and precision size ground.) However they don't have a clear description on the Xometry site about the grade or hardness of their material. It shows "When Alloy Steel 4140 is hardened to its most workable hardness of Rockwell 28/32, it exhibits an excellent ratio of strength to ductility or toughness." It doesn't say if it comes hardened at 28/32 Rockwell though.  Chin

I wanted annealed 4140 (flat stock) for easier machining and will harden it afterward. McMaster has annealed stock at a much lower cost so they won out this time around for me.

(Edit to add:)
I just went to the FastMetals web site and got more info. Their 4140 flat stock is indeed annealed cold rolled material, it is not hardened.
However - a 1/2" x 1" x 12" bar from them (or Xometry) is $36.11
Same thing from Mcmaster is $14.61
Nuff said.

Good to know about the steel.
I've only ordered aluminum from them and been pleased with that.
May look elsewhere for the steel if needed.

Looks like xometry drank the koolaid and is now charging $10.90 for shipping for orders under $50. Same shipping as hobbymetalkits.com.
Not often I would be ordering $50 at one time so their advantage is gone now except for things the other guys don't have.

I don't know about the rest of you, but they have been bombarding me with emails for free shipping over $50. I get the impression they are beginning to feel the spot where they shot themselves in the foot. Smiley-signs081

Same here. Probably fired the guy that suggested free shipping on all orders.

I don't mind paying a reasonable amount for shipping if it is inline with what I ordered. I can't expect a company to deliver all my goods to me for free. Free shipping is just an incentive to get you to purchase from them instead of someone else. And it works obviously when they offer it.

What really chaps my hide though is when a company pulls this kind of b.s. I recently ordered some gaskets & o-ring's that I need that are "obsolete" and almost impossible to find now because of the age of the engine they go on. However this entire list of parts will EASILY fit in the palm of my hand. Look at what they charged me to ship them. (Arizona to Missouri)

They did give me one other option though. Overnight - $87  Smiley-signs140
