Quote:Greg, were you able to take the "rattle" out of the new assembly?Bit of a story and oops there. Rick has the engine tore down in my shop, told him go ahead Im working upstairs in the cabinet shop anyway.
The cam measures 1.001 (surprisingly no wear from the gear moving on it), the bore in the new gear 1.000 so I suggested heating it up with the torch and slip it on the cam which we had clamped on welding bench. Asked him what locates the cam in the block, must be the aux drive gear on the far end of the cam he says. So we put the gear on, nice fit. Next morning while I'm still having coffee he arrives to assemble the engine. Realizes he forgot the keeper plate that goes on the end of the cam before the gear. Warmed the gear up again before trying to use a puller on it, you guessed it, SNAP. Newer gear has arrived.
Free advice is worth exactly what you payed for it.
