hi all
not posted on this thread before, but as it keeps me entertained most days, I thought id share something ive been messing at
some of you may of remembered a previous post of mine, I bought an old lathe. er
Well, said lathe is still not running! its an inbetween jobs project, so Ive been slowly getting it ready for use.
Ive done the usual bits and peaces but I thought id share the electrolysis method for cleaning the old rusty 4 jaw (seen on floor)
gas bottle = sacrificial material,
positively charged with 12v dc battery charger,
non conductive Brick for seperation
Sodium Carbonate Decahydrate (aka 'Soda Crystals from local grocery shop)
said chuck (negative charge)
positive charge to bottle, 2 hours
24 hours
a bit of dissasembly, reassembly, another charged dip for a few hours
clean, then dip in fresh engine oil (to stop it rusting again) very pleased with results.
