Thanks everyone for the great comments I started tearing it down yesterday to see what's missing and a few more pieces than originally told to me ( maybe I should call him and ask for 25.00 back ) just kidding
sent an email to Clausing to see what they have in stock and I'll go from there

I'll post pics along the way thrun the tear down and up to the making of chips picked up my bearings today and belts . Took the the original Howell 3/4 hp motor to work with me because we have 3 ph power there wired it up plugged it in walla ran so quiet and didn't vibrate or move even sitting on a steel welding bench .

Sounds good, I guess you don't have 3-phase at home? VFDs are one of the best things since sliced bread when you need 3-phase, add a brake resistor and you'll be able to power tap... Nice.

I hope your mill uses standard bearings, makes a rebuild much easier and cheaper - got quoted £500 *each* for the taper rollers in my lathe QCGB, and there are 6 of 'em... Obsolete, you see! Ah well, worked out a way to do it... I suppose I should be impressed that they went to so much trouble where a lot of makers would have used bronze bushes, but..

OK, you got me...

The big disadvantage of a fully sealed oilbath QCGB is that although it doesn't fill with swarf, a dud gasket can leave it filled with stinky old cutting coolant... Scratch one set of bearings, thank the fates that the gears survived!

The bearings *should be* in 1922b outer cups - these are 2.250 diameter but have a flange on the "open" end to locate them inside the QCGB casting, and haven't been made since about 1965...

The replacements are "available" 1" bore taper roller wheel bea
rings at £5 each, with a 1.980" outside diameter, glued with Loctite Bearing Fit in a "top hat" machined to 2.250" outside with a flange, to put the inner bearing cone thrust face where it should be - so far they've worked, and they're definitely high-enough precision for the application!

I wouldn't do that with spindle bearings though

I took some pics, if I can find 'em...
