What kind of stainless?
#1
I'm making a handle for a Tektronix scope. I talked to Ed and he thinks it's stainless as I also thought. But the grade is in question.

If you have a Tek scope with the metal handle, take a look at it and see if you can tell me what it is. If you don't, what kind of stainless would you use for a squared off U-shaped handle that wouldn't bend outta shape and remain springy enough to hold at the ends. The width is 5/8" and the thickness is 1/8".

I'd post pics but they wouldn't tell much. All I can say is it looks like it has a brushed finish. When the handle I have comes out of the mold (for the ends) I'll try posting one.

Given this limited info, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!!!

Here are a couple of pix but I'm not sure how helpful they'll be. First is a closeup of the metal used, the second is it attached to the cabinet.

I agree, very likely stainless steel. The 304 stainless would most likely be what's used because it bens fairly well. Double check that thickness though because 1/8" is likely thicker than what appears in the photos. Perhaps 11 gauge?

I just measured mine with a dial caliper and it's about .150 thick which is about 9 gage.
