Hey, Pixman, I Have A Question
#1
Ken,

I just picked another set of the Mesa Tools boring bar attachments. They came with a generic TPGB-321 insert, I'm going to need to order some, what would be a good general purpose insert. Most of what I do is either steel or aluminum, if I need 2 different insert, then so be it. Is this the only insert that would work in this tool?

attached is a photo of the 2 tools

Thanks

Jack

Jack,

You can of course use any insert at all in aluminum, just be aware that TiN-coated inserts like those shown do tend to get aluminum stuck to the coating. Better uncoated if you can get them.

I wish Mesa would use a common TCGT/TCMT 32.5x size insert! Those TCGB 321 inserts are rather scarce, as the thickness of 1/8" isn't nearly as popular as the 5/32" of a TCGT/TCMT 32.5x size. You can find cheap ones in a few places. Circle Machine (now a part of Kennametal's Widia group) used those in their boring bars.

Good luck!

Ken

Ken,

I ordered 20 uncoated and 20 of the TIN coated TPGB 321 inserts, according to the seller they are all grade C5 and all old stock Iscars. We shall see when they get here, with shipping they were about $75 for the lot.
