Just bought a used mini mill, I seem to remember seeing a mini mill with a dial indicator rigged to measure the down feed of the spindle, but can't find any info now on the internet.
Does anyone have photos of this?

I have a dial gauge on my RF mill. Not sure if it will help you.

I just use a dial indicator mounted upside down in one of these:

I use the magnet to attach it to the column and have the point against the spindle housing.

I was using my mini mill today and remembered this topic.  I've attached a picture of my dial indicator on the mill:
