I'm not too keen on them, the paint burns off, then they go rusty and look a mess.
Stainless steel - too expensive.

Might be a reason to buy a spot welder for the stainless.

Then when it will only do up to 1/8", you could say, you need to rivet it in thicker stock for safety reasons, so send for some stainless rod.

When that causes you to hit your thumb (just use some purple and black magic marker) tell her a TIG rig is too expensive, mybe you should just give up........unless?

Good point -- add that to the list of problems that will get you a TIG in the end.....
I'm trying to find out if I can just stick weld it?
