Could you not just grind a flat for setscrews in the tapped holes in the brackets?

Problem with set screws is that the plates are only a half inch thick , and theres no reason that they can't be turned when the ball screws are just as hard and one of them I'm going to have to shorten and turn a place for a bearing on the end of it.
