The last thing I'll do is square off the end to the proper width. It'll only be about .032" in width.

It was probably poor fitting from the factory and just wore out from six years of use.

Common problem, i'm having to renew my cross slide screw and nut after 82yrs of use, they don't make em like they used to.   Rotfl

Finally getting back to this project. I want to make sure I have the lathe set up to make a prototype nut out of aluminum so I've attached a sketch showing how I've got the lathe set up. This is an internal right hand threaded acme nut.

I need to grind some more nose relief on the bit since as is the bottom of the tool bit will hit the workpiece. It's at about 10 degrees now and my CAD program says I need it to be closer to 15 degrees.

I ran the TTGen software and got that a 1"-10ACME is a 1.919º helix angle, so you'd be able to use one of the internal threading bars they and Carmex offer, as long as it has interchangeable anvils and you substitute the standard YI-2 for a YI-3. I have one of those, I just have to run over to the shop tomorrow to see if I have the 3/4" bar with the anvils.

I can't remember every tool I've stocked, and the tooling database that I know will be mentioned now is on my home PC that's 7.5 miles from my shop so I have to depend upon a fading memory for these things for now.

You would have to get the insert, about $17.76 for one from KBC Tool.

That is the beauty of having the database Ken. When you are in the shop you can pick up the tool and look at it. When you are at home you can look in the database.

Of course, the work is in getting them into the database. I did mine systematically by doing one draw of my tool chests/roll cabs one at a time. Then moved onto other items.

Consumable items, such as end mills and inserts don't get entered into the database. Easier to enter them into an Excel spreadsheet if you really want to keep track of them. Also, only drills that are larger than 1/2" or 13mm get entered. The rest I know are in my drill indexes.
