I know it will run more quietly now anyway. The upper bearing looked OK but the lower bearing did have moderate spalling / flaking of the inner and outer races. But since stuff flows downhill, that was to be expected even though they were both open bearings.

It looks like the factory ran a form cutter at a fast clip. Those ridges in the root were on the sides at one time. Oil pockets. Smile

The bonus of fixing my friend's bump knurler was that I used it to make some brass screws for my vise stop on my mill.
