Hi Darren, 1mm (0.040") per pass the pass takes about 15 seconds. I have to take off 12.5 mm each side a total of 25 passes. As it gets wider I may have to do a double pass for 1mm. So perhaps 30-35 passes. I don't have to turn the wheel by hand - that would be slow.
It does seem slow but I don't find it that slow.

It was very slow yesterday because I was messing about with videos Big Grin

When I do the other side I will time it see how long it takes.

It took 35 minutes, one side. So for two sides 70 mins plus a bit of messing about say 1h 30m.
It does help having a power feed.

Now what about the other end the end that holds the cylinder.

Do you think this will be fine?
The holding block is 1'' thick the hole is 1" dia the back plate is 12mm thick.

I would turn the gray part 90 degrees or use another piece of the I beam behind the block with the hole.
Do you already have the cylinder? The way you made the model above it looks like you are going to use a clevis on the cap end of the cylinder. That would not be my first choice. I would use a cylinder with a piece like your orange one on the cap end and mount two of the orange ones on the I beam for the one on the cylinder to go between.

The last one is better Dave, what you want to do is spread the load down into the web and bottom flange. There is no side load on the ear, so boxing in between the flanges and welding to the web is all that's needed. The picture of my splitter in post 163 shows what I mean. If you were to cut a pocket through the top flange for the ear to sit in then weld around the top and the bottom to the web you'd be over doing it, but it would never come apart
Greg, like this, cut the Ibeam and weld it in (Similar to the wedge)
