Converting a X2 clone to CNC

I thought the issue with my steppers always holding power might be related to the 5v jumper I used to the EN connection? I added a switch so I could turn this off and while it does prevent me from moving the stepper when turned off they are still holding power. I doubt I will ever use this machine in manual mode but it's bugging me a bit and I would like to get it sorted. It doesn't matter if Mach3 is running or not, as long as the main 36vdc power supply is turned on the steppers are holding their position? I attached a photo of the diagnostics screen Tom, hopefully that helps shed some light.

What do you have the ENA+ and ENA- inputs wired to?

Hey Ed, as per the wiring instructions I got with the stepper driver I don't have those wired to anything? I bet I should though I'm actually a little surprised at how poorly this is all documented. Nothing impossible but definitely leaves room for improvement by hardware manufacturers.

chinese stuff I got in the kit I ordered for my router is the same way, and I can't get the one driver I have hooked up at the moment to even show power

Not having them hooked up is the reason the motors are always enabled.
What controller are you using to interface to the motor driver?

Thanks Ed, I really appreciate the help. I'm using KL 4030 stepper drivers hooked up to a C10 breakout board. I have found no documentation online explaining how to hook this up but sounds like it would be as simple as wiring to a ground and 5v input and then assigning it in Mach3?

Don't feel alone on the documentation thing. I bought my package from Candcnc, everything was assembled and tested, came with a cd with all the software and manuals and drivers and what not but certainly no step by step instructions on installing the software. I spent a week figuring it out, mind you Ed or a host of others here would have had it going in an hour.

What kit did you buy Dallen? There were so many missing or non standard issues in the wiring diagrams that came with my kit, I actually would have been better off following my own instinct. It was only through some rather extensive internet searches that I was able to sort things out. Maybe I can be of some help Dallen if you post a link or photo if the kit you bought?

I purchased the stuff you see in the photo as a kit from Wanti Motors.

   

I was able to get two of the drivers too run the motor you see in the next photo

   

not sure whats exactly going on with the Z axis yet but got tired of messing with it for the evening, I know its not the wiring on the motor as it runs of both the X and Y drivers.

I checked both terminals 6 and 7 with a meter and 6 is the pulse which should have a varying voltage and 7 which should have either 5 volts or no voltage, the voltage on both of them is around 2.5 volts not sure whats going on. may be the cheap cable they sent with the stuff, I went to get one from the computer store but ended up with the wrong one.

found a bad wire on output 7, now have all three motors running.

You could either use a switch as shown below or if you have an available output you could drive it using your software by hooking up the EN+ to +5V and the EN- to an output from the breakout board.
