The device on the back of the cross slide is (as far as I can tell) not a box turning tool but a Landis Company "geometric" type threader. They are robust and can cut a wide range of threads, though you need the thread chasers for each pitch. What I am not certain about is that most threading heads are mounted on a axial floating holder so it can "follow" the thread it's cutting. The lever with the round knob is the resetter. When you set it up there's a stop in the back that actuates the "spring open" feature as it reaches the set length of thread. The resetting lever "cocks" the chasers back into cutting position after each threading operation.
Congratulations! That rough diamond just needs a little TLC.

My first thought was that the thing on the cross slide was a box tool, then I saw the teeth. Its looks like these can be touched up by grinding the front end of the insert. You can probably get other pitches on fleabay.

Oh, by the way, sir,  You Suck.

The lads are right, it is a die head, I hadn't looked carefully enough!

Thanks Dave.  Just a few little "kustom" touches that I have added to make it my own.

All in all a great lathe.

Mike.
Nice companion to your mill Mike. Thumbsup

OK Greg, now you've got someone else to harass about clean machines. Mike puts me to shame. Big Grin

I also like the tools that way. Mine would be a much longer reach if I did it that way so I can't even if I had fabrication and welding equipment. The tube brackets for the chuck keys is a great idea too!

I'm curious about the chuck on there, it looks rather unusual. Why is it so "thick" from the spindle mount out to the face of it? I can't recall ever seeing one like it.
